York Law School (YLS) is looking to appoint a fixed-term research associate to work with the Head of School, Professor Caroline Hunter. The post is available for 18 months from April 2020. The associate will work with Professor Hunter on a range of projects focused on housing law and regulation. A key characteristic of the research at YLS is its strong multi-disciplinary focus. The School is very well networked with other disciplines and we have highly co-operative relationships with departments across the University. In the 2014 REF, the School placed in joint first for the excellence of its research, 4th for its impact, and 5th overall.
Role
- To conduct individual and collaborative research projects;
- To contribute to the preparation of research proposals and applications to external bodies
- To undertake appropriate organisational and administrative activities connected to the research projects
- To develop and initiate collaborative working internally and externally
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
- A PhD in law or cognate area (e.g. sociology, social policy, geography)
- Knowledge of housing law or housing policy to engage in high quality research
- Knowledge of a range of social science research techniques and methodologies
- Highly developed communication skills to engage effectively with a wide ranging audience, both orally and in writing, using a range of media
- Ability to write up research work for publication in high profile journals and engage in public dissemination
- Experience of carrying out both independent and collaborative research
- A collaborative ethos
