Are you passionate about housing research and looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful impact? The Housing Studies Association is seeking dedicated individuals to join our Board and help shape the future of our research community.

Serving on the Board is an opportunity to contribute to key events, influence the direction of housing studies, and support fellow researchers and practitioners across the UK and beyond. As a member-led association, we rely on the insight and dedication of our Board to drive our work forward, and we welcome applications from across the housing research and practitioner communities.

What does the role involve?

Board members serve a three-year term and play a key role in the management and governance of the HSA. Responsibilities include:

  • Attending four Board meetings per year (including two in-person meetings).
  • Co-leading the organisation of our Annual Conference and Autumn Lecture during their term.
  • Supporting other activities and events that enhance engagement within our community.
  • Contributing to the day-to-day running of the Association, with an expectation that Board members will take on an Officer role (e.g., Chair, Secretary, Communications Officer, or Membership Officer) over their term.

You can learn more about what board membership involves in this blog by our Chair, Tom Simcock.

Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply, you must be a current member of the Housing Studies Association, be UK-based, and eligible to serve as a Director of a Limited Company.

We are particularly keen to hear from members with skills in financial planning, strategic decision-making, and communications, though we encourage applications from all who are committed to advancing housing research.

How to apply

To apply, please submit a statement of interest (maximum 750 words) outlining the skills you would bring to the Association and any Officer roles of interest; what you hope to contribute to the Board and the wider HSA community; and your motivation for serving on the Board.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on 28th March 2025.

Applications should be sent to Lynne McMordie at [email protected].

This is a fantastic opportunity to shape the future of housing research, strengthen your professional network, and contribute to a thriving research community.
