The Yorkshire Policy Collaboration (YPC), is a partnership between the universities of York, Sheffield, Leeds and Huddersfield, designed to build research-driven policy programmes and strengthen working relationships across the member institutions. The YPC is looking for a dynamic, policy-focused individual who will work with teams across partner institutions to deliver on a set of strategic priorities across the lifetime of the programme. You will act as a change agent, working closely with key investments in the policy engagement space. The role will involve sustained engagement with local, national and international governments, NGOs, think tanks, and a range of allied stakeholder groups. The role is based at York, with the expectation of frequent travel to partner institutions.

Role

You will support the YPC steering group as it seeks to draw on the combined strength of social sciences at the partner institutions. This includes exploring new and innovative delivery models, and working with regional organisations to address significant place-based challenges (e.g. levelling up, inclusive growth, reducing inequalities, social care, working towards net zero), and supporting the translation of local and regional insights for national policymakers.

You will also:

  • Provide strategic and operational support for the YPC in the development of institutional and cross-institutional policy initiatives.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for the YPC across the Yorkshire and Humber region.
  • Review YPC project delivery, ensuring alignment with partner expectations, and supporting the assessment and evaluation of YPC core deliverables.
  • Initiate and deliver YPC events, workshops and other activities.
  • Support communications and public affairs teams at YPC institutions, promoting the research strengths of YPC members to key internal and external audiences.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • Level 3 qualification (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Knowledge of the policy landscape, with a particular focus on the Yorkshire and Humber region.
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience of writing for policy audiences.
  • Experience of stakeholder engagement, to facilitate partnerships and build connections.
  • Experience of project delivery, including data capture and evaluation.
  • Experience of managing and hosting events for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to assist with organisational and administrative activities connected to the YPC.
  • An approach that actively champions respect, inclusivity, equality and diversity, as well as identifying and implementing continuous improvement.
