HSA Conference 2018 – 11th – 13th April 2018
Professionalism, Policy and Practice: Exploring the Relationship between Theory and Practice in Housing Studies.
Housing policy has been subject to radical change over the last thirty years. The decimation of the social housing sector, the stigmatisation of marginalised communities and the widespread cynicism about the effectiveness of political action, have led to a deep-rooted scepticism about the ability to achieve fundamental changes to a system often seen as dysfunctional. This conference will examine both the theoretical and practical responses to contemporary challenges. What kinds of concepts are most appropriate to analyse contemporary change? What are the practical implications of reforms to the housing sector?
The conference organisers will welcome papers on a range of topics including the spatial implications of devolution, the development of city regions and creative responses to contemporary housing challenges. The conference will therefore provide an opportunity to consider both theoretical approaches and critically discuss the implications of practical responses. The key question is the extent to which theory can inform practice and how practice can influence new forms of conceptual analysis.
